Cuban Salsa is an interesting, fun and sociable dance. Although we all need to learn those fundamental steps, timing and sequence of moves, Cuban Salsa is so much more than that. It draws on a number the various styles danced through history such as Rumba and Son as well as the Afro Cuban dances of the Orisha. The focus on body movement, partner interaction and wonderful musical interpretation makes for what is a beautiful dance which can only inspire the Cuban rhythm in all of us.
Salsa Amor Cymru was established in 2013 with the aim of holding regular Salsa dance courses where people can learn Cuban style Salsa in a fun and enjoyable environment. In 2017 Salsa Amor Cymru invited Arroba Latino to pick up the foundations set by the club and to take Latin dance to the next level within the Llandudno area. Salsa Amor Cymru now work towards providing bespoke classes and courses, assist with/organise events and arrange trips to other events across the UK as well as promoting other Cuban salsa experiences available to our local dancers. See our Out and About Page to see where we are in the UK and any event offers we have available.
Founder, Clare Sharples, has been heavily involved in the Salsa Scene for over 12 years. Inspired by the amazing Cuban Salsa Scene around her, she wanted to inspire others to take up Cuban Salsa and to love it as much as she did. Clare undertook Dance Training in Cuba (with Key2Cuba) and UKA Teacher Training in London before starting Salsa Amor Cymru in 2013 and continues to travel to various events all over the UK to keep up to date with the ever evolving dance form whilst keeping as close to the roots of Cuban salsa as possible.
We are very fortunate to have the support of various bodies in our quest to bring Cuban Salsa to Llandudno.
These include: The Arts Council for Wales, Conwy County Borough Council and the Sports Council for Wales. More recently we have receive support from RWE Gwynt Y Môr Community Fund for our First Salsa Weekender, for which we are extremely grateful. We are always striving to bring more exciting opportunity for our local dancers, and without the support of these great organisations it would be very difficult to do.
